The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess: My Main 3 Picks

Published on 17 September 2024 at 21:00

'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess' by pop artist Chappell Roan is by far one of the most popular albums of this year- and I'm excited to share my review of it with you.

Chappell Roan, while she's been making music for a very long time, recently got more popularity- not only did she have an amazing, and even historic Lollapalooza turnout, but she just won 'Best New Artist' at the 2024 VMA's.

For the past few months, I've seen her take the internet by storm. After all, she's an incredibly influential artist. Today, while nearly coming up on the 1 year anniversary of this album, I decided to sit down and actually take the time to check it out.

Well, I've pretty much been fangirling over her for the entire day.
Since this article would be a full on novella if I were to review every song, I'm going to review my main favorites. If you'd like to see a song I didn't include here reviewed, comment below and I will! :) :)

Let's start out with the first track on the album, 'Femininomenon'.

I absolutely adore this track. It's my favorite.
First off, the lyrics are witty and fun.

She has a smart approach to getting the point of the song across, in the pre-chorus, you may notice she can't seem to finish her sentence.. But that's by design; and points to you if you get it. ;) ;)

Instrumentally, I really like the track. The bridge near the end of the song has a really awesome, almost 'breakbeat' drum track that gives the song a very dark feminine vibe.

Next, we have 'Red Wine Supernova'.

I think this song is cute, but the lyrics definitely give it an edge.

It's a flirtatious love track, embodying what it's like for Chappell being a queer woman in love with another woman. The music video is equally cute.

The song also includes indie sounding backing vocals and slower breakdowns in the pre-chorus, before picking up and becoming more upbeat in the chorus.

We're all piping hot and ready for this next review, which is of the popular and lovable track 'Hot To Go!".
Of course, you can't dislike this song. The iconic dance and catchy chorus may be what you think of when you hear the name 'Chappell Roan'.

In the beginning, after an upbeat "5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8", the song starts out with a unique, almost video-game sounding beat. I like how the beat almost has a bell like sound effect,.

All the vocals in the song are exquisite, but I'm really a fan of the background 'la-la's in the later part of the first verse, and of course, the pre-chorus is fun.

The chorus is really good, and that's the part I've personally seen online the most- and it's even more fun when you pair it with the official choreography.

Basically, this album is really cute and definitely fun. All of the songs are great, and if you're interested in exploring more of Chappell's music, I definitely think you should give this album a listen.

I hope you liked my review of these three songs!! <3 <3
